Safe flea and tick spray – easy solutions for flea and tick prevention
With the warm weather approaching,
it cannot be denied that the pet owners will be spending extra time playing
outdoors or walking in the woods. That extra time means more exposure to ticks
and fleas. Yes, we know that there are numerous commercial products to
eradicate the fleas and ticks. But most of the pets react poorly to the
chemical ingredients present in the commercial products. They suffer from skin
irritation, diarrhoea, vomiting, seizures and other physical issues. Dogs and
cats tend to be the most sensitive to the chemicals.
Apart from that, numerous products
might be safe to dogs, but they may not be safe for cats and vice versa. The
pesticides are not safe. Thus, it is better to opt for truly natural
alternatives. It will help in avoiding exposure of chemicals to your pets.
Also, the chemicals cause skin irritation to the human body as well. To get rid
of all these, you need to opt for natural solutions to get rid of safe flea and tick spray.
One of the best and most natural
solutions to get rid of the tick and flea is the use of natural oils. The
essential oils can be diluted and used as shampoos or sprays to prevent the
pests. But make sure that you do not overdo it. The pets’ sense of smell is
stronger than yours. Apply the oils in the well-ventilated area and do not
spray them on the face. Lavender, peppermint and lemongrass cedar oils work
well, but they need to be diluted in water or mixed with olive oil before
applying them.
You can opt for fresh crushed
garlic to get rid of safe flea and tick spray. The kitchen staple can be added
to your dog’s diet to ensure flea protection. Using half of the clove to 2
cloves daily will be considered safe, but it can vary according to the size of
your dog. A good thumb rule is using no more than ½ cloves per 20 pounds of
body weight every day. Try not to use more than two cloves regardless of any
size of the dog. In case you have a pet that comes with a history of haemolytic
anaemia, then it would be best to avoid using any forms of garlic.
Vinegar is another ingredient to
get rid of the safe flea and tick spray. Most of us have vinegar in the
kitchen, and it can be used for protecting your pet. You can add vinegar to the
drinking water of your dog or cat. Add one teaspoon per quart of water, or you
can dilute it in water with 1:1 mixture and spray it on your pet’s coat.
You can opt for the flea combs.
This is a right old fashioned solution. The teeth present in the combs lie
close together, and thus they can filter the fleas, larvae, flea eggs. These
combs help in protecting your pet. Comb your pet daily to check for any signs
of flea activity.
